The Clinton County Initiative

The Clinton County Initiative is an independent citizens action group whose mission statement reads:

“We will build on our county’s legacy and its assets so our children and grandchildren can find a good life right here at home. We believe that a growing economy, a diverse community, and a vibrant educational environment are the building blocks of that good life. We plan to help Clinton County enjoy a future filled with both new opportunities and the knowledge that we are all in this together.”

About Us

Clinton County is located north of Kansas City and south of St. Joseph. With a strong agricultural heritage and rich history, Clinton County is positioned to take the next step in the 21st century.

Centrally located within the county, Plattsburg serves as the county seat with all county offices and services located in the courthouse at 207 N. Main Street.

I-35 and Missouri Highway 169 take travelers north and south through the county, serving as the main corridors for Holt, Lathrop, and Cameron on I-35; Trimble and Gower on Hwy 169.

Cameron is known as “Crossroads of the Nation”, and enjoys their position on I-35 and Missouri Highway 36, which also is marked as the southward bend on the Chicago-Kansas City Expressway Route 110 from Chicago to Kansas City.

There are a number of opportunities to work in Clinton County through the school districts, various small businesses, and Cameron Regional Medical Center. But it is the short and easy commute to Kansas City and St. Joseph that makes Clinton County so appealing to so many families. And with Cameron’s industries that land in neighboring counties, they provide jobs to many Clinton County residents.

Clinton County is a short drive from industries in Kearney, Liberty, Excelsior Springs and Smithville that provide many employment opportunities less than 30 minutes away. From some places in the county, that can even mean a 30 minute drive to downtown Kansas City, St. Joseph, or the KCI Airport.

Whether you elect to move to one of our friendly communities, or stake your claim on a piece of open land in the unincorporated areas, there are plenty of reasons to call Clinton County home!
