Job Description:

A Missouri Public Administrator serves as a court-appointed guardian, conservator, or personal representative for individuals who cannot care for themselves or their property, medical care, finances, and safety, as well as acting as an advocate for their clients and ensuring their well-being and dignity. They are also responsible for protecting assets, managing estates, and complying with Missouri Revised Statutes.

As a Guardian/Conservator for Incapcitated Individuals, the Public Administrator shall:

  • Advocate for Clients’ Needs: Advocate for housing, employment, education, benefits, medical care, medical consents, and overall quality of life for their ward.
  • Manage Care and Placement: Make decisions regarding placement in appropriate facilities, medical consents, and general health and safety.
  • Financial Management: Manages the individual’s assets and finances, protecting them from waste or loss.
  • Monitor Progress: Continuously assess the need for continued guardianship/conservatorship and work toward restoration fo the individual’s rights when possible.

As a Personal Representative for Deceased Estates, the Public Administrator Shall:

  • Manage Estates: Take charge of a deceased person’s assets when no family member or will designates someone to manage the estate.
  • Pay Debts and Claims: Pay valid claims against the estate and distribute any remaining assets to the rightful heirs or surviving relatives.
  • Protect Assets: Protect the estate’s assets from waste, theft, or loss during the probate process.

General Responsibilities:

  • Court-Appointed Authority: Serve as a court-appointed official by the Missouri Circuit Court’s Probate Division.
  • Annual Reporting: Provide annual reports for the court detailing the care and administration of each estate or individual under their care.
  • Legal Compliance: Adhere to the statutes and requirements set forth in the Missouri Revised Statutes.
  • Community Resource Management: Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of community services, providers, and facilities to best serve their clients.
